The paper analyzes new legislative initiatives in the EU and EAEU countries, aimed at solving the problems of packaging waste within the framework of building a circular economy. The review of the legislation of the EU countries shows that EU countries have developed a comprehensive approach to the problem of packaging waste. Broad strategic goals have been set from reducing the volume of packaging waste to achieving climate neutrality of the economy by 2050. On the contrary, the approaches of the EAEU countries to solving the problems of packaging waste are more of a «point-by-point» nature. For example, some countries prohibit free packages; other countries are developing more effective mechanisms in the sphere of extended producer responsibility.
