BEROC was launched in 2008 as a joint project of the Stockholm Institute of Economies in Transition (SITE) and the Economics Education and Research Consortium (EERC) with financial support from the Swedish Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and the Eurasia Foundation (East Europe Foundation).

BEROC conducts academic and applied research, organizes educational programs on modern economics and carries out other relevant activities.

BEROC is part of the FREE Network of research centers, which includes SITE (Stockholm), BICEPS (Riga), CEFIR (Moscow), CenEA (Szczecin), ISET-PI (Tbilisi) and KSE (Kyiv).

2008 - Today

Today BEROC is the leading independent academic research centre in the field of economic research in Belarus.

To successfully implement its activities, BEROC attracts representatives of the scientific economic diaspora working in leading universities and research centers of the world to participate in joint research and educational projects.

Thus, the center develops ties between the Belarusian and international academic communities, serving as a platform for the development of scientific discussions between economists working in Belarus and foreign experts from Belarus who are currently working abroad.

Mission and goals

One of the main goals of BEROC is to generate and disseminate new knowledge about the development of the Belarusian economy, its problems and trends. Academic and applied research is aimed at formulating a strategy for promoting economic growth and improving the quality of economic policy in Belarus.

The BEROC team consists of leading economists who are experts in various fields of economics. In addition, BEROC attracts renowned economists working at leading universities and research centers around the world to participate in joint research and educational projects.

The Center develops links between the Belarusian and international academic communities, serving as a platform for developing discussions between economists working in Belarus and foreign experts, including those from Belarus who are currently working at leading foreign universities. Such a dialogue, on the one hand, allows Belarusian specialists to gain access to the best international practices, methods and knowledge, and on the other hand, to disseminate knowledge about the development of the Belarusian economy, its problems and trends.

BEROC conducts educational programs in economics of international level with leading teachers from Belarus and abroad for students, postgraduates, teachers and representatives of government bodies. To date, more than 40 educational events have been held, including the Annual International Economic Conference, Postgraduate School in Modern Economics at the Belarusian State University, Annual Student School in Modern Economics and Economic Research, open lectures, seminars for experts of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus, seminars for journalists on economics and business and other events.
