Conference in Kyiv, June 4-5, 2014

The conference DCFTAs and Beyond — How can the EU contribute to development and welfare in the Eastern Partnership countries” was held on June 4-5, 2014 in Kyiv, Ukraine. The conference was arranged by the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics (SITE) at the Stockholm School of Economics and the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE), with support from the Governments of Sweden and Ukraine.

Report from the event

The purpose of the conference was to discuss what the EU has to offer the Eastern Partnership countries in a broad sense and the mutual benefits the partnership could bring to all parties. The discussion was organized in several panels on related topics that covered the effects of DCFTAs; transforming societies through economic and political reforms; recent transition paths; Ukraine’s reform program; and Eastern Partnership countries and the EU — DCFTAs and beyond.

The list of speakers include Carl Bildt, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sweden; Pavlo Sheremeta, Minister for Economic Development and Trade, Ukraine; Jeffrey D. Sachs, Director of The Earth Institute, Quetelet Professor of Sustainable Development, and Professor of Health Policy and Management at Columbia University; and Erik Berglöf, Chief Economist and Special Adviser to the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

BEROC Administrative Director Igor Livshits and Senior Researcher Kateryna Bornukova took part in the conference.
